[Owner review]First Chevy Volt Gen2 with over 100,000 miles

I found this review in the Facebook public group ,Chevy Volt Owners, and it’s interest to me because he can put 100,000 miles on his Chevy Volt Gen 2 within two years which is really amazing. Let begin Joe Real’s Journey now.

Pic : first day of purchasing Chevrolet Volt (7 August 2017)

Joe Real bought his 2017 Premiere Chevy Volt on August 7, 2017, and he post the picture that his car got 100,000 miles on April 16, 2020, so this car was two years and eight months old.

Here is the speech from Joe.

The 100,000th mile. The most efficient Volt ever, more efficient than a Tesla at 160 MPGe Lifetime, Number 1 VoltStats Hall of Fame for more than a year and counting. Designed by Americans, it’s one of the few cars with the most number of American made components. The most reliable and most efficient car I’ve ever had. Celebrating its 100,000th mile with zero maintenance and repair costs! Bought it on August 2017. It still drives like brand new, with all the oomph if you floor it! Congratulations to GM for making this car and no thanks to GM for terminating the production of this car!

No.1 VoltStats Hall of Fame

According to the given data below, he ran his car on EV mode for 98,061 miles out of 100,000 miles which come into the ratio 98/100 of usage. This is an amazing data that I ever see because Chevy volt gen 2 cans run only 75 miles(120 km) per charge which mean that he had to stop and charge his car frequently than a normal EV cars, like Tesla Model 3 or Nissan Leaf.

  • EV miles: 98,046.85
  • Literal Efficiency: 2,353.41 mpg
  • Pure electric miles efficiency: 168 MPGe
  • Overall Gas Efficiency: 45.98 MPGcs
  • Overall Lifetime Efficiency: 160 MPGe directly from its display
  • Total Gas used: 42.5 gallons burned by the engine, including the required Fuel Maintenance Mode and Engine Maintenance Mode.
  • Total Electric Miles Traveled in a single day: 499.61 Miles.
  • Longest Electric Distance Driven without using gas: 33,604.62 Miles
  • Longest Distance driven between complete full tank fillup of gas: 58,996.97 Miles

$0 maintenance Cost

Joe said that

  • Total Maintenance Cost: $0.00, tires not included.
  • Total Repair Cost: $0.00, recalls & other issues were all covered by warranty.
  • Total Gas used: 42.5 gallons burned by the engine, including the required Fuel Maintenance Mode and Engine Maintenance Mode.

He did the only one oil change after 2 years and it was free. Plus, the tire rotations were free from his dealer.

Battery issue?

Since Joe bought his car, the battery degraded only 2.13 %!! Here are the details :

  • Estimated Battery Degradation: 2.13% (now displaying 13.8 kWh before engine turns on, used to be 14.1 kWh)
  • Estimated average battery range per full charge: 82 miles when still new, now only 72 miles.
  • Best Electric Range Achieved on a single full Battery Charge: 199.7 miles
  • Best Score for MPGcs: 101 mpg for 166 miles.
  • Longest Distance Traveled on a full charge and a full tank of gas: 700 miles

BLINK DRIVE TAKE

Driving a car for 100,000 miles within two years is a big challenge for anyone. If you divide this amount into yearly then I will be around 50,000 miles per year which is quite a lot for normal driver to do this. However, when this challenge comes to any EV cars like Tesla Model 3 then it would be a tremendous of travelling cost saving, charging an EV car always cheaper than filling a gasoline, even in this era(COVID-19). In contrast, not everyone, including me, can afford a Tesla Model 3 due to the high cost of buying, $40,000. Therefore, in my opinion, some people might go for PHEV ,like Chevy Volt priced as $33,520, in 2020 to wait till any EVs car that build in high quality like Tesla become lower than $25,000. Then, I think it will be in high demand.
