Without help from Elon Musk, Tesla Model 3 dominated the second Best-selling electric car in Thailand which is the country that doesn’t have Tesla official.
According to EV Plaza, the best-selling EV company in Thailand was MG which sold MG ZS EV and MG EP more than 1,066 units in 2021. The second best-selling EV car in Thailand is Tesla Model 3 which dominated second in the chart.

Do keep in mind that Thailand doesn’t have Tesla Official, so the starting price of Tesla Model 3 (SR+) is around $90,000 or 3 million baht which equivalent to Tesla Model Y Performance with FSD, Red color, White seat, and some Change for $10,000.

This is a good sign that Thailand can sell more EV than in 2020. In 2020, Thailand has sold only 1,056 EVs which was 0.13 % of overall Thai car sales. In 2021, Thailand has sold 3,994 EVs which was 0.5 % of Thai market share.
Why does Thailand become a slowest EV adoption country in the ‘world?
The main reason that make EV car so much expensive in Thailand is import tax (200%) which was built up to protect Thai car manufacturers from foreigner EV brands, and to make sure that they will survive during this disruption’s era. In addition, there were no sign of EV manufacturers will settle in Thailand within this few years, so basically all of EV cars in Thailand are imported.
The only thing that can make Thai people to purchase more EV car during this time is FTA 100% between China and Thailand which applied to MG ZS EV and ORA Good cat.
However, if Tesla must come to build the production plant in Thailand, so they can sell the car without this ridiculous tax.
