Thai Taxi union ordered 120,000 EV Taxi to reduce 1.68 million metric tons of CO2 (yearly) in Bangkok

Bangkok is one of the world’s most-congested. We have a solid proof from Chris Hemsworth aka Thor that been on Bangkok road in 2018. In this video, we can see that he was really impressed in Bangkok’s traffic.

We can say that Bangkok city is the top five most-congested city in ASEAN. The average traffic speed in Bangkok during peak hour is 15 km/h or 8 mph. There are more than 100,000 taxi active daily on the Bangkok’s road, and they ran their operation eight hours continuously per shift.(2 shift per day) which mean that they generated a million metric tons of CO2 (yearly) in Bangkok.

Reducing more than 1.68 million metric tons of CO2 yearly

Thai taxi, Toyota Corolla Altis, has the average mileage 18 kmpl(kilometer per liters) or 3.1 gal/100 miles(refer : autosmart). The average daily trip of Thai taxi is around 300 km per day or 185 miles per day, so basically they will produce approximately 38.3 kg of CO2 daily, or let’s say fourteen tons of CO2 years per car.

This means 120,000 EV taxi fleet will reduce at least 1.68 million metric tons of CO2 yearly in Bangkok, Thailand.

That’s why the Phoenix Ev Car Thai stepped up with the idea to transform all taxi in Bangkok to EV taxi.

Changing all taxi to EV taxi = adding 165 million trees for Bangkok

Every day, all taxis in Bangkok are emitting 10,800 tons of carbon dioxide per day. One tree can absorbs an average of 9-15 kg of carbon dioxide per year. If we could change all taxis to electric vehicles, it means that we have added 165 million trees for Bangkok.

We need to increase awareness of Bangkok people of the environmental crisis. It’s not just the government to solve the problem but the public and private sectors need to work together. If we do not begin to build awareness regarding to impact of emissions for all sectors, how are we going to reduce air pollution in Bangkok? Many years ago, people in Bangkok had to face the problem of PM2.5 which affected their health and also affects to local economy including tourism as well. Once tourism declines, it will effect to people’s income comes. If everyone still silent to the problems, what will be the future of Bangkok?

EV taxi for $30,000??

First, we need to understand the requirement of Thai taxi driver then we can make a solution for them. Here are the requirement of Thai taxi union for the EV taxi spec.

  1. Range : must be more than 300 km per charge, so basically this will be 50 kWh battery or more than that.
  2. Price : the price should be below one million baht or $30,000.
  3. Fast Charging in 30 mins.
  4. Size : the minimum dimension of taxi fleet in Bangkok should be Mid-size car(like Toyota Camry).

Thus, Phoenix Ev Car Thai plan to provide a SUV sized taxi to Thai Taxi union with the price below $30,000. They will import these EV taxi from China because there is FTA(Free Trade Agreement) between China and Thailand, so there will be very least tax on the car. Here is the the prototype pictures of EV Taxi.
